A was a seasoned professional in the banking industry, having worked in France for over a decade. Upon relocating to Singapore, she saw it as an opportunity to redefine her career and pursue her passion for data analytics. However, lacking experience in the field and familiarity with the local market, A sought our help to validate the feasibility of entering the data analytics space in Singapore and to prepare her job search strategy
Career Path Validation
We began by assessing the feasibility of transitioning from risk management in banking to data analytics. This involved identifying gaps in A's experience and outlining steps to bridge these gaps. While her transferable skills were solid, her lack of practical experience in data analytics needed to be addressed. A completed an intensive short course in data analytics and engaged in an eight-week internship project to gain hands-on experience and enhance her CV.
Branding
The challenge was clear: A's experience in data analytics wasn't strong. We focused on demonstrating her transferable skills and building her brand on core strengths that are essential for a successful data analytics professional. These included her ability to communicate across all levels of stakeholders, her keen eye for detail, her commercial acumen, and her strategic mindset. The key was to find evidence from her banking career and translate those achievements into a language relatable to data analytics.
Job Searching
Recognising the challenges of lacking local experience and making a career transition, we knew traditional job searching methods wouldn't suffice. Instead, we taught her strategies to bypass conventional approaches, targeting hiring managers directly to showcase her potential and abilities.
Interview Preparation
A quickly received interview requests, which made her nervous. We worked extensively on building her confidence and honing her narrative to resonate with interviewers. Emphasis was placed on reassuring her competence and communicating how her past banking experiences would be an additional asset to her new data analytics role.
